Well I am glad the Olympics have been on lately. You know after my ski slope debut in January, I now feel very close to the winter sports athletes. Honestly, I have never had more respect. When the commentators indicated they were flying down the slopes at over 80 miles an hour, I felt a little ashamed of the terror I experienced when I was doing .005 mph.
But in addition to the Olympics, here’s what I have been watching
The Famlily Stone (Amazon ) was a movie I have heard about but for some reason never seen. I thought I might as well give it a go. I enjoyed it. It was quirky and sweet.
Bloodline (Netflix) is a drama within a drama. It is a series and has several seasons. It is family drama, addiction, lies, deceit, infidelity, etc. It could be good but I occasionally just need you to get it together. There is no break. Nothing good happens. It is a series of crisis and finally exhausted me. I cried ‘uncle’ and did not finish it.
After Life, season 2 (Netflix). This is seriously the hardest show to describe. It is a serious topic (grief), but it is delivered in that weird humor that only Ricky Gervais can deliver. Someone asked me if it is sad, and I would have to say no. I didn’t find it sad, it was heart tugging in a couple of spots but it is infused with so much dry humor that it balances out. I really liked both seasons. But it does have a lot of bad language.
Sweet Land (Amazon) is a sweet story about an immigrant arriving for an arranged marriage and facing all kinds of challenges. It is one of those – oh I am glad I ran upon this one – movies.
Janet Jackson (Lifetime) is all about Janet telling her own story. I am from the Janet era. I remember playing her Control album on repeat through college. The documentary was good. I learned a few things. She’s an interesting girl. I guess you can’t have an entire lifetime of fame without being shaped by it.
