Welcome to Monday! Hope you had a great holiday and a wonderful weekend. I came close to running out of stretchy pants but my loungewear pulled me through. Now it is time to put on some real clothes and get back at it…..wish me luck.

Now here’s what I read this month
I read two Christmas books. Let’s get started with those.
First, Christmas at the Cupcake Cafe by Jenny Colgan. This is a sweet story about a young woman opening her dream store with her family’s recipes. It has all the heart and sappiness you want in a good Christmas story. I was pulling for all of them and loved how they all supported each other. This was easily my favorite of the month.
I also enjoyed Mary K. Andrew’s Bright Lights Big Christmas. A brother and sister load up a season of trees and drive them to New York to sell on their yearly lot. Now I don’t know if this is how this happens or not. I have never thought about it, but they go through a lot sleeping in a camper and relying on nice neighborhood folks for showers and hospitality. It has all the relationship stuff, Christmas love and fun.
The Summer List by Amy Mason Doan. This one was interesting. I liked it but I was a little confused at times as where we were going. Two friends who were like sisters growing up have drifted apart and not spoken over several years. One of the moms sets up a scavenger hunt reminiscent of their youth to try to remind them of their strong bond. There’s a lot of twists and turns and it is an enjoyable story if you can deal with a few head scratching detours thrown in.
Lastly, The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese. Okay, you have probably heard of several people reading this one. I have to say it is long…..very long……and you have to pay attention so only start this one when you can commit some time to getting through it. It really is a beautiful story of generations and how each generation advances yet is still highly affected by the ways of the previous generation. It was probably chapter 17 when I finally saw how all of this was coming together. There’s a lot of medical stuff in the book and lots of details about every medical procedure. In the end, I am glad I read it, but again be ready to fully commit.
