Come on in here, Friday! We are happy to see you. Hope your week went well and you are looking forward to a good long weekend. The weather around here is not looking great…..unless you enjoy staying in maybe hanging on the couch under a throw and reading a book. In that case, the weekend weather is looking phenomenal.
Well if you need a book recommendation, here is what I read this month
What a dilemma this month…..I really liked all the books I read. Some months it is super easy to pick the favorite but this month was a bit hard. But that is a good problem to have. Because reading four good books in a row is quite surprising.
I chose This Changes Everything by Tyler Merritt because I really did enjoy the book. But also because he is from Nashville which means he is practically local. And he is just a nice guy. I have gushed about his first book I Take My Coffee Black many times. This one is also just as good. If you do audio books, listen to this one. But reading it is just as good. However you get to experience it will be good. The books are stand alone stories so you can start with this one. Be aware that it is him walking through a cancer diagnosis. He is very candid and I just loved a lot of what he had to say in this .
This Book Made Me Think of You by Libby Page is also very good. I loved the premise of this one because it is so different from other plots. The main character is widowed and yet receives a book each month from her husband. Battling a terminal illness, he takes the time to select a book for her to receive over the first year after his death. The books challenge her, convict her, encourage her……listen this is a sweet story. I really enjoyed it.
Kin by Tayari Jones……wowzer bedowzer….this one grabbed me from the first page and I held on for dear life. It deals with some really hard subjects but these characters leap off the pages and I was pulling for them like crazy. This was one of those books that I could not wait to get back to each day and that I still think of. Two friends who have grown up together from the cradle take very different life paths. My goodness it is one of those stories that you see clearly if only this had happened or this decision was made instead how drastically different life could have turned out for them. It is a hard, emotional read. But well done, Ms. Jones, well done.
Lastly, Little One by Olivia Muenter is also a great read. This one is based around a young woman who has reinvented herself in adulthood. Why? Well because she grew up in a cult and her dad was the leader and there are a lot of questions about what happened to people under his control. A journalist tracks her down and exposes the past that she has worked so had to distance herself from. As she is dealing with this journalist she reflects and tells us the whole story. As she recounts it, truths begin to become evident to her….and these truths are disturbing.
