Well by the title you know it is either a bookstore or fabric store……oooohhhh what if someone opened a combo fabric/book store. Now that would be awesome. But today it is one of my happy places – a new to me fabric store. If you are looking for fabric, you already know finding a good store is not easy.
This store, King Cotton in Birmingham, came across my Instagram feed and I couldn’t wait for the opportunity to go visit. Well opportunity happened yesterday.
It is such a beautifully appointed store

All the fabrics are organized by color. And instead of aisles of bolts they only have large samples displayed. You can “check out” up to ten samples and take them home to match with paints, rugs or whatever. But once you find what you want they send your order to the cut room and they get your yardage ready for you.
In fact you go here

When I saw this sign, I thought is this a magic door? You knock on it and get fabric????? Ha! you get the fabric that you paid for. But it is such a fun concept and as you can see I thoroughly enjoyed knocking on the door.
They also have another building that you get to through this door

Curtain Calls are their remnants and discontinued fabrics. Also, all of there Outdoor rated fabrics are in this separate building.
They only have home fabrics so don’t go there if you looking to make a dress, but so many pretty options. The one challenge was the prices were not on the fabrics so we did have to ask prices for the fabrics we were interested in.
But success

I got my fabrics from the magic door and headed home…..to figure out what I am actually going to make from them. I hate to say I have no idea…..but I will figure something out. Not to worry!
Have a wonderful weekend. Hope you get some time in your happy place, whatever that might be.

Love this!
Thank you! I can’t wait to make something…..not sure what, but something.
