It is book day and I liked everything I read this month. There are so many good books out and coming out! I feel like I just can’t read fast enough. These are the kind of problems I welcome.
Here’s what I read this month
My favorite this month was The Golden Boy by Patricia Finn. Stafford who is a Hollywood success retires to a Hawaiian home to just relax and enjoy a low key life. But he gets notified that he has been left in charge of four children. These are children from his boyhood friend’s family and he returns to his hometown, a ton of memories, a few secrets and lots of things he wanted to leave behind. Will he step up for these kids or is there too much water under the bridge. It is a great story of friendship, family dynamics and things in the rear view mirror that keep appearing.
I also really loved One Day With You by Shari Low. There a pair of friends who are doing life together. Two couples who are married and also friends…they live close to each other, socialize together, and even work together. When a husband from one couple and the wife from the other are gone on a business trip, the wife who is left at home goes into labor. That night turns out to be a turning point for all four individuals. There are neighbors who are entertaining, loving and contribute to this story as well. There is a second book to this story and I cannot wait to read it. I really enjoyed this one.
The Sister Effect by Susan Mallery is also good. You have one sister with an addiction problem. The other sister holding the family together and raising the addicted sister’s daughter. It is a very tender telling of the roles people get assigned in a family, the difficulty in changing those and the love that may make it all okay. Again, this was also a great story with likable characters.
Lastly, Murder Al Dente by Jennifer L. Hart is a quick easy read. Well yes there’s a murder but it is more along the lines of Murder She Wrote than Law and Order. It is fairly light reading. This is one of the books that is good when you have just finished something really heavy or very involved. You can just kind of relax and enjoy this story.
I do hope you are reading some good stuff too. If you are like me and were saddened to hear of Dolly’s passing, you may have thought of her commitment to reading through her Imagination Library. I hope they keep that going. What a legacy she has left in music and in literacy.
