30 years

This is now what we call at our house “The Egg Bowl”. It is the perfect size to whisk a couple of eggs for breakfast each morning. It is lovingly worn. We chose this Pfaltzgraff Heritage bowl carefully 30 years ago when we registered for our every day dishes at McRae’s……if you remember wedding registries at McRae’s, you are my people.

Today we celebrate 30 years of marriage which for some reason sounds like a really long time. A lot has happened.

We have lived in one apartment and two houses.

We have owned over eight vehicles.

We have prayed together over countless decisions.

We have been blessed with two beautiful children together.

We worked side by side in children’s church for over 20 years.

We have studied in Bible Study Fellowship together for almost 20 years.

We have both held each other up during the loss of a parent.

We have sat shoulder to shoulder and witnessed many family and friends say wedding vows.

We have sat knee to knee at the funerals of many loved ones.

We have argued about the most nonsensical things. The most notable being which side of the sink to make the dishwater in and whether to pay $11 for a lemonade at Disney.

We have traveled many places together including the Caribbean, Jamaica, Hawaii, Nantucket, Arizona, Colorado, Baltimore, oh and Disney and many other places.

We have said things to each other that we have regretted.

We have relied on God to fill in the gaps where we obviously lack.

We have disagreed and yet plowed forward together.

We have hoped for the best and braced for the worst on many occasion.

We have come to each other’s defense.

We have been solace to each other after the world has tried to destroy every ounce of our will.

We have laughed together.

We have cried together.

Collectively, we have gained 60 pounds…..and counting.

We have started more household projects than we count. We can count the few we have completed.

We, very much like our egg bowl, have a few bumps, scrapes and knocks. We may not be as crisp, clean and pristine as day one. But we are still here………together with our egg bowl.
