Do you find this time of year intimidating? All the morning shows and shopping networks are encouraging us to make changes, do this and that better, and to buy various quick fix solutions to change our lives. Well I am here today to give us permission to ease into thoughtful tweaks and changes.
Listen, none of this information is new. None of us are shocked to hear about healthful eating or the benefits of exercise or even the advantages of purging our closets and making space in our lives. We all are very aware of what we need to do in our own lives and what would make a real difference for us. So let’s not get sucked into making the “resolution” and giving up on the “resolution” before January 20th and calling the whole year a bust. It is super early in the year. We have time. So let’s just ease into some real changes in a thoughtful way that we might actually stick to.
For instance, I want to get up earlier. Seriously, 30 minutes would make a huge difference for me. Have I managed that one day so far? Uh, no! Did I expect to? Uh, no! And here is why……the week between Christmas and New Years is a free for all. I have no idea what day it is, what time it is or any other pertinent information. For these reasons, I stay up way too late. I get to bed much too late to even think about getting up earlier. So I already know that it is going to take me the first week or so to get back to a normal routine…..then I can start trying to shift my wake up time. I mean we just have to be real. So I am just going to keep working at it and try to get there.
I have some other goals too and I am taking the same approach with them all.
So whatever you have planned for 2023, don’t quit in January!!!! We have 12 months in this year, let’s not throw in the towel in month one. If you missed me talking about the book Soundtracks by Jon Acuff, you can go back and read my blog post about it by clicking here. It is a great way to set yourself up for success by making small changes in your approach, your plan and your execution.
Let’s make some meaningful changes in an intentional way…..we can do this!!!!
Have a great weekend. Please come back Monday and we will talk about our focus for January relative to our Word of the Year – Invest. See you then!

My hat off to you for using my favorite word Monday. Yes! INVEST!!
Yes, looking forward to focusing on it all year!
