I hope you had a great long weekend. We really lucked out in the weather department. Hope the same for you. I also had some great luck in the book department……. Here’s what I read this month
The German Wife by Kelly Rimmer. This was interesting because its main setting is in Huntsville. It is all about the German families who settled in Huntsville to start up the space program. It is a fictional story but based on real events. There’s some tough spots because it covers a lot of the Jewish persecution prior to their arrival and some tough ways they were treated here. I thought it was well written and would recommend.
My favorite this month was a much lighter read – Two Parts Sugar, One Part Murder by Valerie Burns. A young lady, post break up, moves to a small town where she inherits her aunts home and business. The business is a bakery. Guess who doesn’t bake! Fortunately, there are some good folks who take her under their wings. The problem is she’s not sure who to trust….after all there is a murder she has to deal with. It has a lot of humor and the characters are very likable. There’s another in the series and I have in my stack to read.
I also read Over Her Dead Body by Susan Walter. The main character is a want to be actress. She lands on a retired casting director’s door and a plan is set in motion to make the unappreciative children of this lady pay for their behavior upon her death. There are a lot of twists and turns, some slightly far fetched, but the story is entertaining all the same.
Lastly, I read Impossible to Forget by Imogene Clark. An 18 year old loses her mom. But the mom has designated four friends all with different specialties and talents to oversee specific portions of her life. There is a significant cancer focus in the book so if you avoid those, I want you to be aware. The story is really lovely and the real hero is the relationships that thrive throughout. I enjoyed this one and thought it was really well done.
June’s book stack is looking good. Hope you are reading some great books too.
