It is Friday and yay for that! So happy to see the weekend and maybe you are too. If you get some television time this weekend, here’s what I have watched lately and what I thought about them

There are a couple of tissues required movies. One that is just good entertainment. One that is inspirational.

Let’s start with the tear jerkers

Still Alice – This is an adaptation from a book by Lisa Genova. She based the book on her grandmother’s experience with Alzheimer’s. I read the book several years ago and it was a tough read. The movie, yikes, definitely a tough watch. It is all about early onset Alzheimer’s. Alice is diagnosed in her early 50’s. She’s a professor, married, has three adult children and is about to be a grandmother for the first time. See, you are probably already tearing up just reading the description. I will say, often the movies are not as good as the books. But they really did a great job with this one.

Another true story is Into the Fire – The Lost Daughter. This is a documentary and boy oh boy. A girl becomes pregnant out of wedlock. She gives the baby girl up for adoption. She starts trying to find her decades later. She does not like what she finds out about the adopted family and starts to dig deeper into the story. It does not end well. It is a tragic story, but kudos to this lady for not giving up on justice.

Now for the inspirational one – The Long Game– This is also based on a true story. A group of Hispanic students who caddie at an exclusive country club form their own competitive golf team. They are made fun of, shunned, fibbed on, etc. But they persist. It is a very sweet story in the end. I always love a good movie that ends with the where are they know photos at the end. Definitely watch this one!

Lastly, just the good entertainment one – The Union. I loved this one. It was just what a movie is supposed to be. The Union is something similar to the CIA. After the group is compromised they need a random person to assist with the mission. The agent goes back and gets her old high school boyfriend. Imagine plugging in a person from your yearbook into CIA business…..yep, it is entertaining. There is one spicy scene at the beginning but once you get past that, the rest is good to go. Enjoy!
