Listen I know we are in a rhythm around here…..I read four or so books a month, I tell you what I think of them and we all move on in life. Well this book gets its very own individual post. It really was that impactful to me.
I listened to this one as an audio book. And if you can, I highly encourage you to do so. The author reads it himself and there is just something about it. I finished it as I was running errands on a Friday afternoon. I drove straight to Barnes and Noble to buy the hard copy. I want this one on my shelf. I also ordered a few copies for some friends. We need to read this book.

Now let me just say it has some race stuff in it. And I know sometimes we just want to read about a girl reconnecting with her high school crush while inheriting a book store and them living happily ever after. I get that. But sometimes we need to read more. It can help us see things we wouldn’t necessarily see otherwise. We get to experience things from a perspective that we can’t otherwise get. There are some uncomfortable parts. I had to say to myself….”ok, don’t run just sit here in the discomfort….just sit here”….so I did and it was worth it. It was very much worth it!!!
This man is far from perfect. He makes some huge mistakes. He shares all about them and how he comes through them. I think we live in a world of diminishing coping skills and there is something to be said for someone authentically sharing their failures and coming out on the other side. People don’t seem to think they can recover so I liked this part of his message.
But what I really liked was his heart, which he often describes as being overshadowed by his physical appearance by many in society. He shares some serious stuff with the perfect mix of humor. I seriously want to have lunch with him and to go to church with him and to be Instagram friends…….go ahead and read it and let me know if you feel the same.
Oh and on a completely different note, I promised to share what I was doing for Lent. I am doing 30 minutes of worship time. I did this last year and LOVED it! There is nothing like just basking in Who God is. Last year Maverick City Music and I became super close friends. We will probably become closer this year. They know how to worship. Whatever you decide, adding something or giving up something, chose something that glorifies God and edifies you.
